Does anyone else find it extremely odd that, in this whole scuttlebutt about how Madonna may or may not be adopting an African kid, the orphan's father is saying that, yes, Madonna is adopting his one year old son?
Isn't "orphan's father" a bit contradictory? I mean, doesn't the fact that the kid is an orphan mean that he doesn't have a father?
And, if the kid has a father who obiously knows him, why is he up for adoption? And no one finds this troublesome? That the kid's father is saying, yeah, I just gave up my son to an American pop singer? The whole thing is just weird, don't you think?

I wasn't even paying close attention to the story. But are you kidding?!?! Having a father negates the whole orphan concept. UGH!!!! (shaking head)
I worked for two summers at an orphanage in Mexico where some of the kids there weren't "orphans" in the traditional sense of the word. Rather, they were the 10th, 11th or 15th child born into a family and they just couldn't be provided for so the government allowed for them to be "adopted" or placed into either state run or private run (in my case) orphanages where at least they wouldn't go hungry and they would have access to education.
I'm not saying this is the case in the Madonna situation - I have a feeling it's not. Just imagine my shock the first time I was at the orphange and one of the girls went "home" for the weekend.
That's so interesting, Tiffany. I had no idea.
Huh. You learn something new every day. I tell you, blogging is the gift that keeps on giving. :)
The father could keep the kid so he could enjoy a lifetime of flies crawling around on his face, or he could do what he's done and ship the kid off to live with a crazy American pop singer. Now the kid can have flies crawl on him if he wants to. Diamond encrusted flies. Those exist, right?
Giving up the child so he can have a better life and more opportunities.......
Good on him.
It can't be an easy choice. Be it his first child or his 15th.
In any event, Madonna isn't adopting anyone I understand.
Great catch. Seriously - i got the giggles just reading about the orphan's father. Too much.
By the way, your comment on my breakup post was awful. My heart ached.
